I'm new to this forum as I just purchased a 2005 Impala LS for my son. Of course, he immediately moved his 2 foot square sub-woofer assembly into the trunk and couldn't wait to install the stero he had in his old car. He called me today saying that a friend was helping him with the wiring, etc. But he needed to purchase a $100 wiring connector?? To work with the security system of the car??
I had told him to not be in such a rush to install the aftermarket unit as the factory system was good. But what does a Dad know - right! Could someone tell me what is needed for this conversion or is there a way to use the factory system with the added sub-woofer?? The factory unit is a basic am/fm/cd stereo. Thanks for the information!
How does the OE stereo sound with a setup of this kind? His aftermarket head unit is probably 5 - 10 years old.
I know that he'll say that the OE unit is not as good. But I think his main reason for installing the aftermarket was due to the control on the amplifier on the sub-woofer. Bear with me on my lack of knowledge on all this stereo equipment! Also can you order direct from PAC?
I see that don't have a dealer in South Dakota. Are there any chain stores that may carry this equipment? Thanks for the feedback! I did stop at our local car electronic shop here in town today. He confirmed and had the line level converter on hand for $20. He said the disadvantage would be the amplifier would need to be wired into the 12 volt system to turn it on and off.
Also that you wouldn't be able to have the advantage of playing MP3's, etc. I indicated to him that the head unit that my son wanted to install was an older (5 - 10 year old) unit, so I questioned if it was worth it to purchase the $100 module at this point. He said you could wire the converter in the trunk to the existing amplifier/wiring there. Then run the power wire to the dash and he would recommend splicing into the accesory on/off wire there?? Is that good advise? If so, could you indicate where that wire would be located and what color it might be?
Best Answer: The radio is part of a network of modules on a Local Area Network (GM LAN) that all communicate with each other. The OEM radio cannot be removed from this network or the other modules on the network will not function properly. If you install an aftermarket unit, the OEM radio must remain on the network and the aftermarket radio should be installed and wired seperately from the vehicles wiring system. The days of removing the original radios and replacing them with super amped up aftermarket units are over when it comes to computer controlled networked vehicles, which for GM is anything above the 2002 model year. Will using the wiring harness that does not retain the factory warning chimes harm anything else on the truck? A stereo shop where I live told me that the truck would not run correctly. I call bs on that but just in case. He has both wiring harnesses one is 90 bucks it keeps your factory chimes the other is 14.

I call bs on that but just in case. He has both wiring harnesses one is 90 bucks it keeps your factory chimes the other is 14 it does not keep them. Please take my recommendation into consideration. I have seen vehicles where it did not need the chime and vehicle runs perfect. But they do lose the option of hearing warning signs like high temp, low temp, door ajar, etc.
(Mostly 2000-2002 Impala, Monte Carlo & others). I have also seen cars and trucks lock up due to not having the chime. For some reason the vehicle would lock up and not start. It would cost the customer another $100+ just so they can get it out of 'Lock'. In conclusion, if you'd like to sleep comfortable at night w/out having to worry if your truck would start the next time you turn the key, pay the extra few dollars.

Failure Date: As any serious car owner, I tried to address the cheaper items such as battery replacement and spark plugs, all have been replaced twice. Slowly all the electrical applications in my car began to stop working from the blinkers, radio, hazards, cruise control, car windows, and finally the car stopped starting. I was too broke to address it then, so every early morning my car would require a nice jump start to begin the day. This Impala would not start so often that I purchased a portable battery to jump it everywhere, even as simple as the gas station. At first I thought the parasitic drain (drain on the car battery) was coming from the dash cluster/instrument panel which was in line with the complaints I have discovered on google that the bcm was causing non-starter issues for other Impalas. However, once the instrument panel was replaced my radio was still not working and eventually the car became a non-starter again; therefore, I suspected the root of the issue still hand not been discovered. I explained this to mr.
Mcghee, the owner of mcghees auto shop, he did a thorough job of combing all the intricate wires to determine finally an intermittent draw occurring from the amplifier in the trunk of the car. The solution to the problem, fixing the amplifier, cost a grand total of 220$ to have the actual part fixed; I did not want to risk placing a non-stock amplifier, my specific amplifier is no longer available, in the car. However, I like other consumers continually paid to replace parts that failed as it was not obvious there was an underlying malfunctioning in a particular application that made the essential product useless. Failure Date: Every time it rains my entire vehicle floor is flooded. My radio has stopped working and my dashboard lights flicker.
I have been researching and there are several models with this problem from 2002 to 2005. This happens often and can eventually lead to electrical problems. I pay a lot if money for this vehicle and still have a ways to go before I am done paying for it. I have 3 children that depend in thus car along with myself if there are so many people with this problem this is definitely a defect and should be recalled. Failure Date: I was on my way to work and my car just shut off out of no where at a intersection, I was scared I didnt know what to do. The car behind me almost hit me because of it. I tried starting my car back up and it wouldn't roll over or make a sound and my brakes were like locked up.
But all my dash lights were on and my air bag light kept blinking and my radio was working. After about 6 times trying to start my car it finally started up and the air bag light went off for like 2 minutes and came back on and my turn signal stopped working and started making a buzzing sound. Til this day if that air bag light is on my car wont start and sometimes I can put it in nuetral and it will start. Every once in a while my car will accelerate on its own and when I put it in park it sounds like my car is just going to blow up because it sounds like my foot is on the gas. I took my car to advanced auto and got a free testing on it and my starter is good and so is my battery I recently got a new one.
So I dont know what it could be. But I have noticed that alot of older Impalas have this same problem because I have googled and searched online. Failure Date: Shortly after purchasing the vehicle I noticed that when opening the driver's side or any other doors dic (driver's info center) stays lit and radio stays on for 15 minutes. Was told it may be the bcm (body control module). Also checked vehicle's oil and all was fine then 2 weeks later check engine light comes on and dipstick shows no oil. No leaks anywhere on driveway nor under carriage.
Steering wheel squeals when turning yet all fluids are topped off. Is this vehicle a lemon? Failure Date: About 2 weeks after replacing a bad battery I noticed that my radio (factory installed) wouldn't turn on.
Upon further investigation I noticed that my turn signals don't make the ticking noise when they are blinking. Upon further investigation I noticed that nothing makes any sounds, lights on warning, low tire pressure, seatbelt not fastened, or anything else that would make a sound. I have no clue but everything else is fine, just no warning tones at all. Show more fewer Radio/tape Cd Player problems.
Failure Date: The wipers had ice on them as well as the right hand side of the windshield on 01/25/14 a week after I bought my car. The defroster had been on all the time during my drive home, about 1 hour. I had to stop a number of times to knock the ice off the wipers and scape the windshield. It happened again on 04/03/14 when I was driving home from the mpls airport. I had put on new wipers after the first incident, yet these wipers iced up as well. I again had the defroster on, sometimes it was full blast.
Chevy Impala 2010
I took pictures of the wiper blades on the 4/3 drive. I showed them to the dealership and they said the defrosters were working fine. To me this is a safety issue. Also there is terrible road/wind noise. I have recorded it. I had all the windows up, nothing was turned on and the noise is terrible.
Even when at a stop, you can hear the noise of the passing cars 2 or more lanes away. The dealership said they couldn't do anything for it.
They are working with me to try to resolve the issue. So I have no complaints about the dealership, but with the car.
I am thinking of taking it to a body shop and see what they think of the road/wind noise. I even wear earplugs if I have to go very far because I can't stand to listen to the noise. I used to love to get in the car and just drive, with no radio on, I don't in this car.
If you would like a picture of the wiper blades or listen to the noise in my car I can send those to you. Failure Date: While driving down the street my car began to slow down and the steering wheel started to tighten up. I looked down and noticed that the completely shut off. The ignition key was turned on, the radio still playing, all lights on - but the car was not on. Izotope serials. The car was shut down. I then attempted to start the car up and it would not start.
Giving me a clicking noise with no alerts on in the car. After a few tries, the car started back up and I parked it back at home. The second time, the car had been sitting for about 45 mins and would not start. After several attempts I got my car to start, but I was not able to go one minute without it cutting off while turning corner. This was the 2nd time the car stopped/shut down while in drive. The next time I was actually taking the car to the shop and I drove about 3 mins before it shut off and took several attempts to start the car. I have small children and for my car to continuously stop while driving is a huge problem!!
I have been fortunate enough for it not to have stopped on a highway or anything, but this is very dangerous and no one, not even the Chevrolet dealership service center has been able to find what the problem is. This is extremely dangerous and needs to be addressed!! My car has stopped while in drive 5 times in two weeks, while I have been driving, and 3 times while sitting idle.
Failure Date: I have a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, I called the customer care line and my car is not on the ignition switch recall list. I explained to the lady that all of my lights will go off whenever I go over speed bumps including speedometer and radio. When attempting to start my car I have to jiggle the key for several minutes before it will turn and I do not have any key rings with my car key. The lady clearly stated that my car is having the ignition switch issues, but not being on the recall list I would have to take my car to the dealership and pay for this out of pocket. I do not understand why my specific VIN was not on the recall list and why I would have to pay for this when I was told by a contact at gm that my car has the issue.
I just want this fixed. I have had this car for a year now and it has given me nothing but issues. I can't see my speed when I drive at night which I could get a ticket for and is dangerous. Who can I contact to be added to the recall list? Failure Date: Tried to start car, wouldn't turn over even though car had power, no noises or sounds made when trying to turn over even though I had full power to radio winders doors and electric dash board. Had a new starter put in because I thought that was the issue.
How To Install Cd Player In 2005 Chevy Impala
2 weeks later security light comes on while driving and stayed on. Tried to turn car on same thing happened have power. But no turn over and security light is still on. Turned off car took out keys and left car alone came back later and car started w/o incident. No security light on. Same issue keeps happening maybe 4 times a month if not more have to wait 10 mins in order for car to start.
Issue happens at gas station, home, work, hot and cold weather. Before I figured out 10 min delay had car towed and spent money on repairs that aren't necessary. Noticed one day while I sat in car for 10 mins in summer heat with 3 month daughter, that car makes a sort of computer humming/buzzing sound. After the 10 or so I hear a click or as I call it a shut down sound and then I am able to start car. Failure Date: Every now and then you go to start the car it won't do anything. All the lights, radio, everything comes on as normal but when you turn the key over to start it won't do nothing, click, or anything.
One time we left the car over night, locked up, the next day it started like nothing was wrong. Another time I let the car sit for 15 mins and it started fine. Then another time, I kept trying every 10 to 15 mins for an hr but nothing. Then let it sit for 25 to 30 mins then nothing but I left the key in on position for a couple minutes while all the lights ran and then it started fine. Some people say its the starter, ignition or even the security. A lot of people have had this problem there's even videos of people complaining. Id say that there's something that needs to be looked into so everyone w these vehicles know what's wrong.
Failure Date: Radio has very bad reception. Have taken care to dealership and they have replaced new radio with reconditioned radios twice.
First replacement radio, display did not work properly. Second replacement radio was not calibrated properly when installed and when taken back to the dealership and re-calibrated, had the same problem with the display as replacement radio number one. I now supposedly need a new dimmer switch.
(am taking to another dealership in the hopes that they can repair the problem) the fog lights constantly have excessive condensation. Am told by the dealership and gm that this is normal however I have had several people tell me this is not normal. Have not observed this type of condensation on any other vehicle's fog lights. Gm will not repair or replace unless there is standing water. Gm refused claim.
There is an extremely loud popping and cracking noise from the dash. Temp outside does not seem to matter. Am told by the dealership that they are aware of the problem but have no fix. The cracking noise is very distracting when driving. It comes suddenly and with no warning and sounds like something hard striking the windshield.
