Some time ago, DisplayLink released driver (their version 7.9M3) which caused my Start Menu to stop displaying. An error similar to the following is logged in the Application event log: Activation of application Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHostcw5n1h2txyewy!App failed with error: The app didn't start. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information. The Micorosoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log does not exist on this system so no further information is available. I reported this to DisplayLink some months ago but they did not resolve the issue so I reverted to 7.9M2 (7.9.478.0). DisplayLink version 7.9M4 also did not resolve the issue. I now find that Microsoft has released driver 7.9.630.0 which has exactly the same issue. I have reinstalled 7.9.478.0 (7.9M2).

How do I: (a) get DisplayLink to fix this issue? Or (b) ensure that Windows Update does not update the driver? I have reported this to DisplayLink, but since they didn't fix the issue before (when I sent them the diagnostic logs from my system) I assume they would come up with a fix soon. Iogear Displaylink Driver Windows 7
Hi RC2076, First I would make a backup of the driver. Doing this will allow easy re-installation of your display adapter after you remove it. You most likely cannot uninstall it because there is a file in use by the system. Reboot your computer to safe mode. To do this restart and before the widnows logo screen press F8. This will give you options. Choose Safe Mode.
Log in and now see if you can unisntall your driver. If you can reboot and it will return your computer to normal. Post driver removal you may notice that everything is larger. This is because your screen resolution is much less without the driver.
To return it to normal just reinstall the driver from the OEM that you uninstalled. Hope this helps! Shawn - Support Engineer - MCP, MCDST Microsoft Answers Support Engineer Visit our and let us know what you think.
